In the mid-eighties Valerie and her sister, Cynthia Shields, planned and catered formal dinner parties for family and friends...¦just because! Valerie also assisted family members in planning their weddings and milestone anniversary parties and she even planned her own wedding. Over the years the plates, glasses, chafers, silverware, tables, chairs, tablecloths, and napkins accumulated and shortly thereafter All Occasions Catering and Event Planning was founded.

The business initially operated on a part-time basis catering small events for individuals and businesses. In 2003-2004, Valerie's husband, Terry, enrolled in the Texas Culinary Academy in Austin, Texas and later became the executive chef for the company. As advertising and catering opportunities increased, Valerie took a leap of faith and turned in her corporate gear to pursue her catering and event planning business fulltime. All Occasions Catering & Event Planning joined a number of professional organizations - Round Rock Chamber of Commerce, two chapters of Business Network International (BNI), and the Austin Wedding Guide's Wedding Industry Network Group. The company became a retailer for Carlson Craft wedding invitations and accessories and Valerie obtained her certification as a wedding consultant.

A poet once wrote "some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same." All Occasions Catering & Event Planning planned and/or catered many weddings, anniversaries, elegant dinner parties, corporate luncheons, customer appreciation galas and open houses for a variety of clients and each occasion has left pleasant footprints on their hearts. However, somewhere along the way, Valerie found her true passion - planning weddings. As a result the business underwent a re-organization and is now operating as All Occasions Planning - planning "all occasions" related to matrimony.

Valerie is a natural planner, a lover of serenity, elegance, and romance, and one who cherishes order. She is a native Texan; born and raised in a small town near Lubbock. She comes from a very large family, full of entrepreneurs. She moved to Round Rock in 1985 and has been a resident for more than 20 years. She's been married to Terry for more than 15 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management, and an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration. She has over 15 years of diverse experience in human resources, which honed her skills in areas of customer service, project planning, program management and statistical analysis. Valerie has worked for the City of Austin, Dell Inc., TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company, Bank of the Hills and La Petite Academy.
